Vietnam, Russia boost education, sci-tech strategic cooperation

(VOVworld) – Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan on Monday attended a workshop on strategic cooperation in education and science-technology during his ongoing visit to Russia. Nhan expressed his hope at the event that education and science-technology will remain the cornerstone of the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic cooperation between 2014 and 2020. He went on to say that Vietnam is renewing its education system and implementing a program to send 10,000 students abroad for post-graduate training, noting that Russia is one of the top potential partners for this plan.

Nhan’s visit to Russia aims to concretize cooperation agreements between the two countries in education and science-technology, including bio-technology, new material technology, aerospace, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, and marine science. He revealed that Vietnam plans to send approximately 4,000 students a year to Russia for training from now till 2020. He asked the workshop to work out special measures and set goals for the strategic relationship in the 2014-2020 period.

Nhan said: "Present here are the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Far Eastern Studies, and several Vietnamese educational institutions. It will be a significant beginning if Vietnam and Russia have 3 collaborative projects by November. I hope the two sides will design a roadmap for our strategic cooperation in the next 30 years."
On this occasion, Nhan witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding at a meeting of the Russia-Vietnam Committee of Education Cooperation.
