Vietnam sees RoK as important long-term partner: NA Chairwoman
(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam attaches great importance to cooperation with the Republic of Korea and considers it an important long-term partner, said NA Chairman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan during talks with her RoK counterpart in Seoul on Thursday.

Madam Ngan said Vietnam applauds the RoK’s “New Southern Policy”, which focuses on bolstering cooperation with ASEAN countries, particularly Vietnam.
RoK National Assembly Speaker Moon Hee-sang reviewed the outstanding achievements in cooperation and friendship since Vietnam and the RoK established diplomatic ties in 1992.
He said Vietnam is Korea’s fourth biggest trade partner. Last year two-way trade totaled almost 64 billion USD, up 40%. The RoK is the largest investor in Vietnam with 5 billion USD invested to date.
Chairwoman Ngan appreciated the RoK’s East Sea stance, and asked the country to continue supporting Vietnam and ASEAN in maintaining peace and stability and addressing disputes in the East Sea by peaceful measures in line with international law.
That evening, Madam Ngan held talks with President Moon Jae-in, who said Vietnam and the RoK share many similarities in culture and history. Prsident Moon praised the Vietnamese community living and working in the RoK for their contributions and said Vietnam will always be a close friend of the RoK.
Ms. Ngan called on the RoK to further support Vietnam in improving maritime law enforcement and building and implementing a sea strategy.
