Vietnam, South Africa work to bring two-way trade to 2 billion USD

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam and South Africa agreed to further promote channels of Party external relations and State diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy and increase the exchange of delegations from all sectors and levels.

Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and her South African counterpart Paul Mashatile reached the consensus at a high-level talk after a welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi on Thursday.

The guest said he hopes that Vietnam will support strengthening South Africa’s partnership with ASEAN, and affirmed his readiness to help Vietnam in strengthening its cooperation with the Southern African Customs Union.

Madam Xuan proposed that the two sides coordinate research and promote negotiations to improve bilateral trade and investment, to bring two-way trade to 2 billion USD in the coming time, encourage investment in each other’s markets in potential fields such as electric vehicles, EV batteries, and industrial equipment.

She also expressed a desire to strengthen cooperation in education, agriculture, minerals, natural resources and the environment, and most importantly, wildlife conservation.

The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in national security and defense, and to soon organize a third dialogue on defense policy, while building cultural promotion programs and facilitating entry visas for citizens of the two countries.
