Vietnam, South Sudan establish diplomatic ties
(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam and South Sudan signed a joint communiqué on establishing diplomatic relations at the headquarters of Vietnam’s permanent mission to the United Nations (UN) in New York on Thursday.

The signatories were Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of Vietnam’s mission to the UN, and Ambassador Akuei Bona Malwal, head of South Sudan’s mission to the UN. The two sides agreed to exchange diplomatic representatives at the ambassadorial level and apply the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
The two sides agreed to enhance collaboration in agriculture, banking, oil, and gas. South Sudan pledged to support Vietnam’s bid to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure.
With the establishment of diplomatic ties with South Sudan, Vietnam now has diplomatic relations with 54 out of the 55 countries in Africa.
