(VOVworld) – The Vietnam-Sudan Joint Governmental Committee convened its first session in Khartoum on Friday to discuss measures to strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two countries. The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in agriculture and agreed to boost negotiations for the signing of cooperative agreements in maritime transportation, double taxation avoidance and investment protection.

The two sides agreed to hold the second session in Vietnam in 2016. Vietnamese ambassador to Sudan Dao Thanh Chung said: “After 3 days of discussion in the spirit of friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding, we have discussed a number of measures to bolster friendship and cooperation in the areas of politics, diplomacy, economics, trade, investment, agriculture, industry, telecommunications, culture, education and training, and labor. The first session of the Vietnam-Sudan Joint Governmental Committee has been a success in the lead up to the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties.”
The Vietnamese delegation held working sessions with a number of Sudanese ministries on the sidelines of the session. Sudanese officials said they hoped Vietnam would share its experiences, particularly in agriculture with Sudan. On this occasion, Sudan recognized Vietnam’s market economy status.
