Vietnam supports comprehensive political solution in Libya
(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam supports a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned comprehensive political solution on the basis of respecting the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Libya, Ambassador Pham Hai Anh, deputy head of the Vietnamese delegation to the UN, said Wednesday.

Addressing a UN Security Council videoconference briefing on the Libyan situation and operations of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Ambassador Anh praised progress on politics and security in Libya. He called on parties to honor the ceasefire agreement, facilitate the transition period, and make all necessary preparations for holding national elections based on the agreed roadmap. Mr. Anh reiterated Vietnam’s support for UNSMIL in monitoring the ceasefire, praised efforts by the Mission, neighbors, regional organizations and partners to promote peace in Libya and clear bombs, mines, and other unexploded ordnance (UXO) under the aegis of the UN Mine Action Service, and called for greater efforts to protect civilians from UXOs.
