Vietnam supports peace process in Afghanistan

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam is concerned about mounting violence in Afghanistan and reiterates its support for an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process, said Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, at an online UN Security Council meeting on Tuesday.

It is crucial that a permanent ceasefire be achieved to end the violence in Afghanistan, Quy said.
Vietnam supports efforts to empower Afghan women, protect them from fear and want, and permit them to lead their country on an equal basis with men, he said.
Quy called on the international community to help Afghanistan address pressing issues such as food insecurity.
He welcomed the efforts of the UN Assistance Mission of Afghanistan, the UN Mine Action Service, and partners to meet humanitarian challenges in Afghanistan, including mine clearance and pandemic prevention and control.
