Vietnam, Sweden boost parliamentary cooperation
(VOVworld) - Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Uong Chu Luu paid a working visit to Sweden on December 9th and 10th to foster friendship and bilateral cooperation between the two countries and parliaments.

During his stay, the National Assembly Vice Chairman held a working session with Speaker of the Swedish Parliament Per Westerberg, and Swedish Minister of Justice Beatrice Ask. He also met with the Chairman of the Stockholm City Council, heads of the Parliament’s Committees for Foreign Affairs and Justice, the Chief Judge of the Swedish Supreme Court, the Vietnamese embassy staff in Sweden, and representatives of the Vietnamese community there. Sweden’s top legislator Westerberg said that only Vietnamese people can decide their political mechanism and its development. He stressed the need to expand their economic and tourism cooperation, and exchanges of delegations for peace, development, and prosperity in both countries. Luu said that Vietnam is building a law-governed state and a socialist-oriented market economy and respects human rights. He said that the National Assembly of Vietnam will host the 132nd Assembly of the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) in March, 2015, and conveyed an invitation from National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung to the Swedish Parliament Speaker to attend the event.
While meeting staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and community in Sweden, the National Assembly leader briefed them on the situation in their homeland as well as policies and directions of the Party and State regarding Overseas Vietnamese.
