Vietnam to become large market for livestock products
(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam is expected to become a large consumer of livestock products by 2030, according to a conference on Tuesday to discuss a husbandry development strategy for 2020-2030.

The strategy targets the production of 6.5 million tonnes of meat and 30 million tonnes of animal feed per year by 2030. Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung said the strategy is crucial for the development of the husbandry industry for improving competitiveness, environmental protection, and food safety.
Vietnam ranks 6th in the world for pork production and 2nd for domestic water birds. Vietnam’s farm produce has been shipped to 120 countries worldwide but none of these export items come from animal husbandry, said Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong.
“We have to raise the status of animal husbandry, which has been defined as the mainstay of the agricultural sector. Vietnam is the world’s 15th biggest farm produce exporter and we need to seize all opportunities to develop livestock production,” said Mr. Cuong.
Vietnam aims to export 20% of its pork and 25% of its meat and eggs by 2030.
