Vietnam to grant amnesty on celebration of national reunification

(VOVWORLD) - Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh on Thursday chaired a meeting of the Amnesty Advisory Council 2025 to consider the dossiers and proposed list of individuals eligible for amnesty on the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the south and national reunification (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025).

The Deputy Prime Minister, Head of thr Amnesty Advisory Council 2025, affirmed that humanitarianism and leniency for offenders are longstanding traditions of Vietnam. Amnesty is a special form of clemency granted by the State and decided by the President to prisoners before the completion of their sentences, either fixed-term or life imprisonment, on major national holidays, significant events, or under special circumstances.

Mr. Binh said, for this year’s amnesty, relevant ministries and agencies, especially the Ministry of Public Security, have urgently worked to ensure that the amnesty process is carried out strictly and transparently in accordance with the law.
