Vietnam triumphs at ASEAN Women’s Football Championship 2019
(VOVWORLD) - The Vietnam Women’s Football team became champions at the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship 2019 by beating host Thailand 1-0 in extra time of the the final on Tuesday. The only goal was scored by captain Huynh Nhu in the 93rd minute.

The Vietnam team won all 3 of its group stage matches, scoring 21 goals and conceding none. They beat the Philippines in the semi-final with a 2-1 comeback. This is the 3rd year they have won the trophy. The previous was in 2012.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent his congratulations, praised the players’ spirit and called their win “convincing”. Mr. Phuc said he hopes the team will have further success in the future. On the occasion, he wished the Vietnam Men’s Football team a good result in the World Cup 2022 qualification game against Thailand next Friday.
