(VOVWORLD) -The UK wants to boost cooperation with Vietnam in various spheres, especially economy, trade, investment, national defense, security, education, justice, and climate change response, said Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Secretary Dominic Raab at a meeting with visiting Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue on Thursday.

The two agreed to prepare activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year.
They said both countries should make better use of bilateral trade deals to boost their economic ties and cope with post-COVID challenges to supply chains and energy and food security. Chairman Hue suggested that British firms expand their investment in Vietnam, especially in green finance, health care, digital technology, education, innovation, infrastructure, and clean energy.
He called on the British government to continue to support the Vietnamese community in the UK. Deputy PM Raab thanked Vietnam for its support for the UK becoming a dialogue partner of ASEAN and asked for Vietnam’s support for the UK joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
The two exchanged views on regional and global issues and agreed that all countries must follow the basic principles of international law and the UN Charter.
Maritime issues should be addressed on the basis of international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), they said.
