According to the Trade Office of the Vietnamese Embassy in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, by the end of October, 2012, two-way trade between Vietnam and the UK topped 3.6 billion USD, 36% more than in the same period last year. Vietnamese exports to the UK earned nearly 3.2 billion USD, up 44% over last year. Vietnamese’s main exports were mobile phones and other electrical devices, shoes, textiles, furniture, machinery, mechanical equipment, coffee, tea, seasoning, plastics, and plastic products. According to the Trade Office, total two-way trade between Vietnam and the UK may exceed the 4 billion USD target for 2012 which was set when a strategic partnership agreement was signed in September, 2010. Commercial Counselor Nguyen Thi Hong Thuy, said if enterprises promote Vietnamese products effectively, trade in 2013 will keep its momentum. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam-UK trade volume was about 3 billion USD in 2011.
