Greer addressed Vietnam’s negotiations proposal at a meeting in Washington DC with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc, who is in the US in his capacity as special envoy of Party General Secretary To Lam.

Deputy Prime Minister Phoc said Vietnam wishes to continue to strengthen and deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States. Vietnam is persistent in building an independent and self-reliant economy, and in pursuing the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, and diversification and multilateralization of foreign relations, he added.

Mr. Phoc said Vietnam wishes to work with relevant US agencies to concretize the discussions between Party General Secretary To Lam and President Donald Trump on April 4, 2025, thereby maintaining stable and sustainable economic and trade relations for the benefit of businesses and people of the two countries.

He suggested that although the US has decided to postpone the imposition of tariffs for 90 days, both sides should soon negotiate a bilateral trade agreement to create a long-term framework to promote stable and mutually beneficial economic and trade relations, in line with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework.

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said the US values its bilateral relations with Vietnam, wishes to closely coordinate to resolve the trade deficit, and aims at increasingly deeper relations in all fields.

During the working visit to the US, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc met with Senators Bill Hagerty and Steve Daines and various US organizations and businesses.
