At the ceremony Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son reviewed milestones of the Vietnam-US relationship, which has seen great strides since the normalization of diplomatic relations in 1995.

He affirmed that Vietnam and the US will continue to deepen cooperation on all 10 pillars of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework, which was established during President Joe Biden’s official visit to Vietnam on September 10th and 11th.

The US delegates lauded Prime Minister Chinh’s visit to the US and the proposals for effective bilateral activities. They affirmed that both the Democratic and Republican Parties value the United States’ relationship with Vietnam and support a strong, independent, prosperous, and self-reliant Vietnam.

They said that the US has the responsibility to continue to cooperate and support Vietnam in overcoming the war consequences, including identifying the remains of Vietnamese martyrs, Agent Orange/Dioxin detoxification, clearance of landmines and unexploded ordinances, and support for people with disabilities.

Both sides made a strong commitment to enhance cooperation on all pillars within the new relationship framework, with a focus on economics, trade, investment, science-technology, education-training, health, people-to-people exchanges, and overcoming war consequences. Also included were emerging fields such as ensuring supply chains, energy transformation, high technology, and climate change response, especially in the Mekong sub-region.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Senators Bill Hagerty and Dan Sullivan. The two senators expressed their belief that the new relationship framework will generate many new cooperative opportunities for the two countries.
