Vietnam, US discuss agricultural collaboration
(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Hoang Trung met with US Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Jason Hafemeister on Thursday in Washington DC, as part of his visit to the US to accelerate market access for Vietnamese fruits, enhance plant protection collaboration, and advance sustainable agricultural practices to reduce emissions.

Mr. Trung said: "Vietnam has exported eight types of fruit to the US, and passion fruit is next. Technical procedures have been handled satisfactorily by both sides, and we hope that Vietnam passion fruit will soon be exported to the US. In addition, many other types of fruits, including seedless limes, jackfruit, and guava, as proposed by US businesses and the Vietnamese community have had their paper work dealt with. We will continue to engage in negotiations to bring these fruits to the US."
Deputy Minister Trung expressed hope that the USDA will play an appropriate role in the consultation process regarding trade defence cases against Vietnamese agro-forestry-fishery products, particularly those involving timber, warm-water shrimp, and honey.
The US side pledged continued support for Vietnam in carrying out projects related to fertilizer management, biological pesticides, and rice production in the Mekong Delta region.
