At a meeting with President Trump in Hanoi on Wednesday, Prime Minister Phuc said Vietnam treasures the comprehensive partnership with the US.  

President Trump said he is glad to return to Vietnam, a dynamic and beautiful country, and meet PM Phuc again.  He lauded the Vietnam’s preparations for his second meeting with the DPRK leader in Hanoi.

The two leaders said they are pleased with the genuine progresses in bilateral ties. Two-way trade topped 60 billion USD last year with the US’s exports to Vietnam increasing by 46% and Vietnam being one of the fastest growing exporting markets of the US. Both sided agreed on the need to implement the Vietnam-US Trade Agreement and the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) and to discuss the possibility of upgrading bilateral trade-investment ties to match their comprehensive partnership. 

The US President has met Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on the occasion of the DPRK-US Summit in Hanoi. Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung told the press on Wednesday: “In the Vietnam-US relations, bilateral contacts and especially high-level meetings demonstrate both progress in relations and important tool to boost relations. Obviously, President Trump’s meetings with Vietnamese senior leaders during the Hanoi Summit reflect their respect to bilateral ties. The two sides have discussed various cooperation issues and signed several agreements on economic cooperation. Those meetings have indeed boosted bilateral relations.”
