(VOVWORLD) - Politburo member and Minister of Public Security Gen. To Lam asked the US side to soon finalize the process of reviewing and recognizing/granting market economy status to Vietnam at a reception in Hanoi on Monday for US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper.

Minister Lam suggested the US step up cooperation with the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security, accelerate the early signing of the Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, the Extradition Agreement, and the Agreement on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons.
Mr. Knapper affirmed that the US Embassy will continue to coordinate and work closely with functional units of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security to substantively and effectively realize the appropriate cooperation contents of mutual interest, especially those agreed upon by senior leaders under the framework of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development.
