Vietnam, Uzbekistan bolster comprehensive cooperation

(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said Vietnam always remembers Uzbekistan's wholehearted support for Vietnam in the struggle for independence and that Vietnam values traditional friendly relations with former Soviet republics, including Uzbekistan.

Meeting Uzbekistan's Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov in Hanoi on Monday, the Prime Minister said that on the basis of traditional friendly relations, it is necessary to promote comprehensive cooperation across Party, Government, and National Assembly channels through the exchange of delegations and establishing new cooperation mechanisms between ministries and sectors.
PM Chinh called for further cooperation in key industries such as oil and gas and agriculture to ensure energy and food security and cooperation between localities of the two countries as well as coordination at regional and global forums. Vietnam is ready to act as a bridge between Uzbekistan and Southeast Asian countries and asks Uzbekistan to support Vietnam in reinforcing cooperation with Central Asian countries, he said.
Foreign Minister Saidov said Uzbekistan wishes to further traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam, especially in economics, trade, and investment. He affirmed that the two sides have much potential for cooperation and expressed agreement with the cooperation directions mentioned by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at their meeting.
