Vietnam values continued all-round cooperation with the US
(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has begun a 2-day trip to the US to attend the 68th session of the UN General Assembly. After his arrival on Friday, Dung held talks with representatives of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund and US leaders.
During talks with the Vietnamese government leader, US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker and US Trade Representative Michael Froman promised to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in economics, trade, and investment. They showed a determination to speed up negotiations of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) with Vietnam and other partners for an early adoption.

Dung said Vietnam wants to cooperate with the US and other TPP members to accelerate the TPP negotiations, as stated in a deal signed by Vietnamese and American high-ranking leaders last year. Dung welcomed the Department of Commerce's recent decision to remove Vietnam from the list of countries subject to anti-dumping taxes on frozen shrimp imported to the US. The Prime Minister asked the US to recognize Vietnam’s market economy status and end investigations into 12 trade disputes with Vietnam, including 4 anti-subsidy and anti-dumping suits against shrimp and tra fish. The 2 US officials acknowledged Dung’s proposals and promised to consider them.
