(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam and ASEAN consider Myanmar a member of the ASEAN family, therefore closely monitor the situation and support Myanmar on the basis of respecting this country’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, said Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son on Friday.

Talking online to Ms. Noeleen Heyzer, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Myanmar, Mr. Son said Vietnam wishes and continues to support ASEAN’s centrality and efforts.
During the conversation, the two sides shared concerns about the unstable situation in Myanmar, emphasizing the current and urgent priority is ending the violence and increasing humanitarian assistance to the people of Myanmar.

They stressed the need to promote dialogue and trust-building in order to seek a peaceful, comprehensive, and sustainable solution that matches the interests of the Myanmar people.
The two sides agreed to work closely together to support Myanmar's early return to normality and stability, for the benefit of the Myanmar people as well as peace, stability, cooperation and shared development of the region.
