During the meeting, Mr. Ayres spoke highly of positive developments in Australia-Vietnam relations, especially the elevation of their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership during Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Australia earlier this month.
Ayres emphasized that there is still room for growth in bilateral trade and investment, and Australia is proud to be a partner of high-quality training and education in Vietnam. Australia is committed to further opening up its market for Vietnamese agricultural products, supporting Vietnam in supplying essential minerals, and enhancing cooperation in climate change adaptation and energy transition towards the goal of achieving net-zero emissions, said Ayres.
Ambassador Tam expressed his belief that Vietnam-Australia cooperation, especially in political diplomacy, and investment in trade, has a basis for further comprehensive development on a par with their comprehensive strategic partnership.
He urged the two countries to effectively implement the Free Trade Agreements to which the two countries are members, and quickly activate the ministerial-level dialogue mechanism on energy and minerals.
