The departure ceremony for sports officials and athletes will take place on Tuesday in Hanoi with limited number of participants to avoid getting infected with COVID-19.
Members of the Vietnamese delegation got the second shots of COVID-19 vaccine on Friday to meet the Olympics organizers’ requirements. After arriving in Japan, they will undergo tests and be quarantined for three days.
The 43 members comprise 25 officials, coaches, and experts, along with 18 athletes in 11 sports, including swimmers Nguyen Huy Hoang and Nguyen Thi Anh Vien.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics will be held from July 23 to August 8 in Tokyo without spectators as a resurgent coronavirus forced Japan to declare a state of emergency in the capital that will run throughout the Games.
