This recognition is based on a recommendation of the Slovak government council on human rights, ethnic minorities, and gender equality. The Vietnamese community satisfies the requirements for population, length of stay, and full integration into the host society.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Slovakia Nguyen Tuan said, “The Vietnamese community in Slovakia has put in a lot of effort over the years and faced challenges, particularly in a city where the ethnic minority community has been recognized. The Vietnamese community in Slovakia has boosted its profile and connected with historians to demonstrate that the Vietnamese community has existed for decades, while working with the Slovak parliament and the Slovak committee for ethnic minority affairs to complete the profile."
"The Slovak Academy published a paper at the end of August of last year demonstrating the Vietnamese community's lengthy history, qualifying it for official recognition as Slovakia’s 14th ethnic minority.”
There are 7,000 Vietnamese people living and working in Slovakia.
