President Miguel Díaz-Canel said he and the other senior Cuban leaders present at the ceremony had the opportunity to meet and work with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, a close comrade and a true brother to the Cuban people.

In the book of condolences, the Cuban President wrote: "In this moment of sorrow, we firmly believe that the contributions of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong will forever be remembered in the cause of the Party and the Vietnamese people. Forever remembering our sincere friend!"

The Vietnamese Embassy in Egypt on Wednesday held a ceremony to pay tribute to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and opened a condolence book for him. Representatives of the overseas Vietnamese community and the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and agencies observed a minute of silence to commemorate the Party General Secretary. Many representatives of foreign diplomatic missions and international organizations in Egypt came to pay their respects to the Vietnamese leader.

General Secretary of the Egyptian Communist Party Salah Adly Abdelhafiz called General Secretary Trong an excellent leader with strategic vision who made great contributions to the cause of socialism in Vietnam and to developing Vietnam's foreign relations. The ceremony was attended by the ambassadors of Japan, Singapore, the Philippines, North Korea, Brunei, and Rwanda, and representatives of the embassies of Thailand, Indonesia, Syria, and Myanmar.

On Wednesday, General Secretary of the South African Communist Party Solly Mapaila visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Pretoria to pay respect to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. In the book of condolences Mapaila wrote that the South African Communist Party recognized General Secretary Trong's contributions to the international struggle of the working class for socialism and his leadership in building a self-reliant, sustainable Vietnam.

The Vietnamese Embassy in the US held a memorial service and opened a condolence book for Party General Secretary Trong at the Vietnamese House in Washington, DC.

On behalf of the US Department of State, Assistant Secretary of State Dan Kritenbrink said the strategic vision, leadership, and sincere sentiments of the General Secretary were an essential foundation for the US and Vietnam to deepen political trust and record accomplishments over more than a decade, in particular establishing and upgrading a Comprehensive Partnership and later elevating the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

He said the US Department of State will continue to collaborate with Vietnamese ministries and agencies on efforts initiated by the General Secretary and generations of leaders on both sides to foster bilateral relations.
