They returned to Hanoi on Sunday. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc had a meeting with the coach and players of the Vietnam U23 team the same day at the government office. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism organized a gala to honor the whole team.

After the final between Vietnam and Uzbekistan, Vietnamese fans came out to streets to congratulate the Vietnamese team creating a huge festival of red flags with yellow stars. The Vietnam U23 team was also presented with the Fair Play Award. The team’s excellent performance at the tournament inspired millions of Vietnamese fans

“As a football fan, I think the players are heroes. The U23 team show their patriotism. They played with their utmost and they created a miracle.”

“Though they lost at the final, the Vietnam U23 team are the champions in the hearts of Vietnamese fans.”

“I hope that the players will bring into play their advantages in the coming games”.

According to the fans, Vietnam U23 had a brave game and was only defeated in the last minute of the final: “Vietnam played excellently during the 120-minute game. We lost in the last minute. But the U23 team won Vietnamese people’s hearts. They brought faith to 90 million Vietnamese people.”

“I closely watched the game. felt a little pity in the last minute. But it's no problem. Our Vietnamese players played excellently. They are the champions in our hearts.”

Overseas Vietnamese people are celebrating the victory of the Vietnamese team. Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Ngo Duc Manh praised the players’ spirit and their achievements at the tournament: “We are very proud of the Vietnam U23 team. They are the brave soldiers. They bravely played in a severe weather. This is the very first time that we have had to play in such a severe weather. Their victory is the success of the Vietnamese football.
