On Tuesday, the British Council and the University of Natural Sciences, Hanoi National University organized a seminar on enhancing participation of female researchers in STEM in Vietnam.
Professor Dr. Vu Hoang Linh, Rector of the University of Natural Sciences, Hanoi National University, and Scott MacDonald, Director General of the Global British Council were among the attendees at the seminars.
Speakers at the seminar discussed the importance of promoting female scientists’ engagement in science study and challenges they face in participating in STEM. Initiatives and good practices to ensure gender equality in STEM education in Vietnam and around the world were also discussed.
The speakers highlighted the improvement of gender equality in education and in STEM in Vietnam through specific actions but adding that difficulties remain.
In Vietnam, the proportion of female scientists is smaller than male scientists, especially those engaged in science research and have international publications. Though women play an important role in socio-economic development, job opportunities for them in STEM remains limited. The speakers highlighted the role of female science in natural science development.
The seminar is part of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam-UK diplomatic ties and the 30th anniversary of the British Council in Vietnam.
