(VOVWORLD) - The first 2 tons of Vietnamese fresh lychee shipped to Japan last weekend sold out in a day, according to Vietnam’s Plant Protection Department.
A small amount has been kept in supermarkets for future events while retail markets are completely out of the tropical fruit. Lychee sold to Japanese supermarkets at wholesale price ranging from 8 to 12 USD per kilo.
About 5 tons of Vietnamese fresh lychee were shipped to Japan by sea on Saturday and are expected to arrive in the country within a week. Japan is expected to purchase about 100 tons of fresh “thieu” lychee from Vietnam this year.
