(VOVworld) - Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has begun his two-day official visit to Vietnam. During talks on Monday following the welcoming ceremony, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised Japan as the biggest ODA donor for Vietnam and the 2nd largest foreign investor.

He thanked the Japanese government for its 2nd batch of ODA loan in the 2016 fiscal year worth more than 1 billion dollars. Both agreed to boost cooperation in trade, high tech agriculture and vocational training. Prime Minister Abe announced Japan’s licensing of Vietnamese red dragon fruit imports while Vietnam has given permit to Japanese pears.

They agreed on the importance of securing peace, security, navigation and aviation freedom in the East Sea, disputes resolution through peaceful mean, not to use for or threaten to use force and comply with international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, the Declaration on Conduct of Parties in the East Sea towards early finalization of a Code of Conduct for Parties in the East Sea.
Both leaders witnessed the signing of a number of deals on ODA provision for climate change response and competitiveness improvement projects and a non-refundable project for ensuring waterway security.
