Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Vietnam, Florian G. Forster, said that IOM is cooperating with Vietnam to address issues facing migrant workers in foreign countries. Hew said: "One challenge is to know what will happen and we work on providing information so that people are better equipped and stronger when they migrate. A second field were IOM has been helping a lot and continues to help when migrant workers find themselves in a crisis situation like in 2007 in Libya, or today in Syria, or last week we had migrant workers from Vietnam from the Philippines who returned. Then we helped very concretely with providing assistance to these people to get out the country and to return safely to Vietnam. We do this in cooperation with the Consulate Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs."
Vietnam currently has 500,000 workers in more than 40 countries and territories in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and America, 30% of whom are women.
