Vietnamese rescuers access quake-hit areas in Myanmar’s capital

(VOVWORLD) -Upon arrival in Naypyitaw on Monday, Vietnamese rescuers reach consensus with Myanmar officials on the methods and ways to organize search and rescue at the scene.

The head of the Vietnamese rescue team had a quick meeting with representatives of the Fire Prevention and Fighting Department in charge of coordinating the Vietnamese rescue operations, and He U Kyaw Soe Win, Minister of Tourism and Hotels of Myanmar.  

Major General Pham Van Ty, Deputy Director of the Ministry of National Defence's Search and Rescue Department, said that the Vietnamese military and police forces plan to search in three directions as quickly as possible.  

Major General Ty, who also serves as the Chief Commander of the Vietnam People’s Army force in the relief mission, said that search dogs sniff out people in the rubble. Then the rescue team will use a wall-penetrating radar system, specialized image and sound search equipment to locate victims.

“We have a 30-member military medical team ready to deploy small-scale treatment. Each team has different strengths and experiences,” said Major General Ty.

Despite the scorching heat of 41 degrees Celsius in Myanmar, the rescuers quickly moved to the search scene which is located 25 km away from the capital city.

On the same day, the Vietnamese delegation presented 30 tons of dry provisions to the quake victims.
