Vietnam's rescue force begin operations in Myanmar

(VOVWORLD) -106 members of two working groups from the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam began rescue operations in quake-hit areas in Myanmar on Monday. Relief goods will be delivered to those in need.

Shortly after landing at Yangon airport on Sunday night, the Vietnamese rescue force set off on a 450-kilometer journey by car to the capital Naypyitaw to discuss search plans with Myanmar’s forces.

Major General Pham Van Ty, Commander-in-Chief of the military forces participating in search and rescue efforts in Myanmar, said, "We will work closely with the Myanmar coordination committee on search and rescue operations. Our operations will focus on the hardest-hit areas where thousands of people lie buried under the rubble."

The Vietnamese team will be split into three groups to expedite search efforts to minimize the loss and suffering of the people of Myanmar, he added.

Myanmar authorities have expressed profound gratitude to Vietnam for its rapid response in dispatching rescue teams to support their country's in earthquake recovery efforts. Welcoming the Vietnamese delegation at Yangon International Airport on Sunday, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein praised Vietnam’s swift action, highlighting it as a testament to the strong ties and unwavering friendship between the two nations.

In addition to providing relief aid at Myanmar's request, Vietnam has offered an emergency aid package worth 300,000 USD to support earthquake recovery efforts.
