(VOVworld) – The Vietnam-France Friendship Association condemned China’s placement of oil-rig Hai Yang 981 within the Exclusive Economic Zone (EMZ) and continental shelf of Vietnam in a communiqué delivered to the Vietnamese Embassy in France on Tuesday.

The communiqué said “the People’s Republic of China has violated international norms and has contravened established agreements between China and ASEAN, especially the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC). The Association calls on China to pull the oil-rig out of Vietnamese waters and honour its commitment to finalise a binding Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) as soon as possible.
Honorary President of the Vietnam-France Friendship Association Madame Hélène Luc wrote a letter highlighting France’s solidarity with Vietnam. The humanitarian organisation “Amis, France-Vietnam” (Friends, France-Vietnam) sent diplomatic notes Friday to the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations, and the Vietnamese Embassy in France protesting China’s violation of Vietnam’s territorial sovereignty.
