In more than four decades of being a UN member, Vietnam has always been proactive and made practical contributions to the organization's activities. Last year, Vietnam was elected for the second time to the UN Security Council for the term 2020-2021 with an unprecedented number of votes in the history of the UN.

In a message delivered on Vietnam's 75th National Day, UN Secretary-General Atonio Guterres said Vietnam has always been the UN's strongest partner since its membership 43 years ago. Viet Nam's military forces have been involved in UN peacekeeping missions and Vietnam's leading role in achieving millennium development goals is a solid foundation for Vietnam to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

As a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Vietnam has made important contributions to safeguarding sustainable peace. Vietnam has actively engaged in crisis prevention and peacekeeping efforts as well as making important proposals on protecting women and children, promoting human rights, building a post-conflict peace, and improving the Security Council's working method.
