(VOVWORLD) - Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam’s e-commerce recorded the highest growth in Southeast Asia last year and this trend is likely to continue in the next five years due to digital transformation and consumers' online shopping demand, according to a seminar in Hanoi on Tuesday.
Vietnam e-commerce market expanded 15% last year to 13 billion USD, the only country in Southeast Asia to record double-digit growth in the sector, according to a survey by the Vietnam E-Commerce Association.
Nguyen Binh Minh, a member of the Executive Committee of the Association, said that 90% of the 5,000 surveyed businesses are non-state enterprises and that the rest are state-owned and foreign-invested enterprises which focus on wholesale and retail business.
He said Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city are boosting their e-commerce development while other localities are taking their first steps. E-commerce is believed to help localities overcome difficulties quickly, especially those favoring the agriculture sector, Minh added.
