By the end of June, approximately 1,700 new projects were licensed with a total registered capital of more than 7.4 billion USD. Industry and manufacturing received the most attention from foreign investors, accounting for 73% of the newly registered capital, and are considered the economy’s foremost factors driving growth. The number of foreign tourists to Vietnam reached nearly 8.5 million, up 7.5%. Nguyen Duc Thanh, Director of the Vietnam Institute for Economic and Policy Research (VEPR), said: "Vietnam’s inflation rate in this year’s 2nd quarter has decreased despite electricity price hikes and adjustments related thereto. Vietnam is no longer experiencing a large trade deficit like in the past. Trade balance remains stable thanks to the exports of FDI businesses."
