Vietnam’s fishery sector marks 60th traditional day
(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam’s fishery sector marked its 60th traditional day at a ceremony in Quang Ninh province on Sunday night.
On April 1, 1959, President Ho Chi Minh visited people and fishermen in Tuan Chau and Cat Ba islands. Since then this day has been observed as the traditional day of Vietnam’s fishery sector. Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung acknowledged efforts and contributions of the sector to national development and defense. He set out goals to be achieved: “Vietnam fishery sector’s goals are industrialization, modernization, and comprehensive, sustainable development to become a mass production sector with appropriate production structure and organization forms. It should have high productivity, quality, efficiency, and competitiveness, and firmly integrate into the global economy. Efforts should be made to improve fishermen’s income and living standards, protect the ecological environment and fish resources, and contribute to safeguarding national security.”

An exhibition was opened in Quang Ninh province on Saturday as part of a series of activities to celebrate the 60th traditional day of Vietnam’s fisheries sector. 220 booths of 35 provinces introduced their achievements at the exhibition organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
