In recent years, the export of leather, footwear products and bags to the countries that signed the Free Trade Agreements with Vietnam has grown from 10 to 20 %.
Phan Thi Thanh Xuan, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association, said the sector is expected to see positive signs until the second quarter this year. She stressed the need to expand export markets.
“It is essential to seek for new markets, and make full use of the markets that have signed the FTAs with Vietnam. Vietnam’s leather and footwear sector has managed to establish its trademark. Vietnam has good reputation for producing trainers for world’s famous brands. We hope that despite a decline in total demands, the order for Vietnamese products will be maintained this year,” Xuan said.
In 2022, Vietnam’s leather footwear saw export growth of more than 30%.
