(VOVworld) – Programs took place in Ho Chi Minh city on Tuesday to mark the 69^th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2^nd). The highlight of the celebration was firework displays at the Saigon river tunnel and Dam Sen park. 

The northern province of Son La hosted a gala night at Moc Chau stadium, featuring Mong, Thai, and Dao minority groups. Their performances praised the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh and described the development of their hometowns.

The same day, the Vietnamese Embassy in Cairo held a ceremony to mark the event. Vietnamese ambassador to Egypt Dao Thanh Chung underlined the significance of the National Day to the Vietnamese people. Earlier, representatives from the Egyptian Presidential Palace visited the Vietnamese embassy to congratulate the staff on Vietnam’s National Day.

The Vietnamese Embassy in France hosted a similar event. Vietnamese Ambassador to France Duong Chi Dung extended his thanks to generations of Vietnamese in France who have always supported the people at home during the struggles for national liberation in the past and Vietnam’s current national development.

Dung said: “Overseas Vietnamese have always contributed significantly to Vietnam’s development and integration. I’m happy to see Vietnamese in France, especially the youth, turn their hearts to the homeland. In recent years, there have been a wide range of programs to enhance scientific and educational cooperation, technological assistance, tighten business links, and promote investment and charitable activities, which will serve Vietnam’s construction and defense in the modern era. Your participation has made a great contribution to Vietnam Year in France 2014. I hope you will always help to bolster Vietnam-France relations.”

Vietnamese embassy staff on Tuesday laid a wreath at President Ho Chi Minh Monument in Cuba’s capital Havana to mark Vietnam’s National Day and 45 years of implementing President Ho’s will. Ambassador Duong Minh reviewed President Ho’s life and revolutionary career since he left Vietnam in 1911 to find a means of national salvation abroad.

Earlier, as the rotating president of ASEAN countries in Cuba, the embassy held sporting events for embassy staff members from Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

Vietnam’s Consulate General in Perth, Australia held a ceremony to mark Vietnam’s National Day with many Australian officials attending. The Acting Governor of Western Australia Wayne Martin praised Vietnam’s achievements and relations between the two countries, particularly between Vietnam and Western Australia. He congratulated the Vietnamese community in Australia on the election of the first Vietnamese person in Australia to be governor of South Australia and the first Asian governor in Australia. He also wished the Vietnamese government and people greater success in the cause of national construction and development.
