Vietnam’s stance on the East Sea issue clarified in Russia
(VOVworld) – At a press briefing on Thursday to announce the Vietnam Cultural Day to be held next week in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Yaroslav, Vietnamese ambassador Pham Xuan Son has called on the international community, including Russia, to voice their continued support for Vietnam and contribute to easing tensions in the East Sea, so as to maintain regional peace, stability and security.
Ambassador Son briefed reporters on current developments in the East Sea and thanked Russia for supporting Vietnam’s efforts to settle the current dispute in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 2002 ASEAN-China Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC). He highlighted the importance of the Vietnam Cultural Day in Russia to bilateral ties, calling it a special opportunity to enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples and bolster their traditional friendship.
