(VOVWORLD) - Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen in New York on Wednesday to discuss cooperation between the two countries in economy and finance, and to share views on other issues of mutual concern. The meeting took place as part of the Mr.Chinh’s trip to the US for the high-level week of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.

The Prime Minister asked the US Treasury Department to accelerate the recognition of Vietnam’s market economy regulations, enhance dialogue and cooperation in areas of common interest, including infrastructure and financial services, human resource training, and information and technology application.
Yellen said she will promote the US’s recognition of Vietnam’s market economy and support stronger cooperation in high-tech, green energy transition, response to climate change, education, and training.
At a meeting with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, Prime Minister Chinh proposed that agencies of Vietnam and the US work together to complete new cooperation frameworks to lay a foundation for further cooperative relations in science, technology, innovation, green growth, energy transition, response to climate change, and cyber security.
The two sides emphasised the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, safety, and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, as well as handling disputes via peaceful means and on the basis of international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the SEA (UNCLOS).
