(VOVWORLD) -Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on Saturday welcomed Antony Blinken for his first official visit to Vietnam as US Secretary of State and said that the visit is significant on the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership.

At a reception in Hanoi for Secretary Blinken, Party leader Trong applauded the outcomes of Blinken's working sessions in Vietnam as well as the strong and comprehensive development of the two countries' relations. He affirmed that important foundations for the development of bilateral relationship are to respect each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political institutions, for peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
Secretary Blinken shared his assessment of the comprehensive and substantive development of Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership and underscored the US commitment to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam particularly in trade-investment, science-technology, education-training, and climate change response.
The Secretary of State said the US values relations with Vietnam and hopes to elevate the relationship to a new height. He reiterated the US support for ASEAN centrality and expressed his hope to promote the settlement of issues of shared concern through ASEAN mechanisms and frameworks.
The Party leader welcomed the US support for the shared concerns of Vietnam and other ASEAN countries on regional and global issues.
Secretary of State Blinken repeated that President Joe Biden invites Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to visit the United States. Mr. Trong thanked once again and suggested agencies to arrange the trip at an appropriate time. He repeated the invitation for President Joe Biden to visit Vietnam. Mr. Blinken said President Biden hopes to visit Vietnam soon.
