(VOVworld) – Five people were killed and five others injured in a gun and bomb attack targeting a government office in Khok Pho district, Pattani, Thailand on Thursday. The attack took place amid efforts of the Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha’s government to resume peace talks with southern separatists.

Local police said a group of insurgents sprayed bullets at the office of the Magood Tambon Administration Organization and then set off two explosives that damaged the building. The local authorities confirmed that 2 high-ranking officials were killed in the attack.
The same day, a group of insurgents launched a similar attack on another government office in Yaring district, but caused no casualties.
