VOV, Granma newspaper strengthen ties
(VOVWORLD) - President of the Voice of Vietnam Nguyen The Ky received in Hanoi on Thursday Ms. Yailin Orta Rivera, Editor in Chief of the Granma newspaper of Cuba.
Mr. Ky briefed his guest on the development of VOV over the past years: “VOV now has 8 radio channels, 17 TV channels, 2 online newspapers and 1 print newspaper. VOV has 11 foreign bureaus and plans to establish another one in the Caribbean region. VOV is modernizing its organizations into a multi-media group. We also broadcast in 12 languages including Spanish.”
The VOV President expressed his hope to further strengthen ties with media agencies in Cuba. Ms. Yailin Orta Rivera said Granma is the largest newspaper in Cuba: “We have more than 500,000 publications a day. We have one international version in 6 languages. We are aiming to promote multi-media. The online version of Granma has the second largest audience in Cuba. It was the first website launched in Cuba in 1996. We plan to produce TV and radio products and take advantage of social networks to strengthen communications in Cuba.”
Ms. Yailin Orta Rivera said that the Granma has a special feature celebrating the 45th anniversary of President Fidel’s trip to Quang Tri province and a wide coverage on the Vietnam-Cuba ties. She said she hoped to strengthen cooperation with media agencies in Vietnam including VOV.
