WHO, Commonwealth pledge to help poor nations obtain COVID-19 vaccines

(VOVWORLD) - The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Commonwealth on Monday made a commitment to ensure that the most vulnerable countries will have access to COVID-19 vaccines so they can restore their economies.

During a meeting in Geneva between Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Patricia Scotland and WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the two signed an MoU to address vaccine equity.

The agreement promotes advancing universal health coverage, strengthening global health security, building a data partnership, and encouraging innovation and the exchange of knowledge.

As of Tuesday nearly 398 million COVID-19 cases had been recorded around the world, with 5.77 million deaths, according to worldometers.info. 

In the past 24 hours, the world reported  1.76 million new cases and 7,900 new deaths.

Russia saw the most new cases yesterday, while India had the most new deaths.
