(VOVWORLD) - The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed the possibility of transmission of COVID-19 from human beings to animals like dogs, cats, and tigers and researchers are investigating the effect of the coronavirus on other animals.
WHO representative to Russia Melita Vujnovic said that an intermediate host has not been identified yet. She said researchers want to find the animal that is most 'susceptible' to the virus so the spread of the virus can be controlled.
The WHO is advising infected people to limit their interaction with their pets and other animals, because as a virus moves between humans and animals, there is a possibility of genetic mutation of the disease that could make it deadlier for humans.
