(VOVWORLD) - The Covid-19 pandemic is worsening around the globe, the World Health Organization (WHO) said Monday.
Warning against complacency, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, "Although the situation in Europe is improving, globally it is worsening. More than 100,000 cases have been reported on 9 of the past 10 days. More than 136,000 cases were reported on Sunday, the most in a single day so far. Almost 75% of Sunday’s cases were in 10 countries, mostly in the Americas and South Asia."
Protests against racism have spread around the globe in recent weeks, raising the risk of virus transmission.
As of Tuesday, the world had confirmed more than 7.2 million novel coronavirus infections, and 408,000 deaths.
