Kato Masaya, the WHO’s communicable disease group coordinator
(VOVworld) – Vietnam hasn’t recorded any Ebola-infected cases so far but the disease is likely to enter the country through arrivals from Africa. At a press conference on Tuesday, Kato Masaya, the WHO’s communicable disease group coordinator, said that no cases of Ebola virus have been reported in Asia and the infection risk to Vietnam is very low. Kato said the disease is transmitted via extremely close contact with the people or animal acquired with the Ebola virus. Besides with no cases of contractors to date, it means there haven’t been sources of the disease on top of Vietnam’s good preparations of preventive measures against the epidemic outbreak.
Doctor Tran Dac Phu, Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine, said in the future the Ministry of Health will work more closely with the WHO, international organizations, and countries that are stricken by the disease to keep updated of the epidemic developments to forecast accurately risks for Vietnam. The Ministry will increase the control of bacterial contamination in state and private hospitals, prevention of communicable possibility among medical staff, and training for maintaining and transporting blood samples for Ebola virus tests in line with international standards. Checks will be continued in personnel, medicine, and equipment to ensure that everything will be ready if the epidemic breaks out.
