(VOVWORLD) - 22 winners of a national photo contest and exhibition on Vietnam’s sea and islands were announced at a ceremony on Monday in Hai Phong city.

The competition, which garnered 9,600 entries from 2,500 contributors across the country, nearly doubled its entries compared to 2021. The submissions showcased the remarkable beauty of Vietnam's seas and islands and highlighted economic, cultural, social, and defense and security achievements in these regions.

Addressing the award ceremony, Defense Minister Phan Van Giang stressed the importance of promoting Vietnam's land and its people, particularly its advances in marine economic development.
Giang encouraged all agencies, departments, and organizations to raise awareness of the vital role of the sea and islands in national construction and defense. "Let's inspire unity and patriotism in every Vietnamese heart, and work together to protect the sacred sovereignty of our nation's seas and islands," he added.
