Workshop shares global progress in bomb, mine clearance
(VOVWORLD) -Overcoming the consequences of bombs and mines is an urgent need and an indispensable part of Vietnam’s post-conflict recovery, peace building, and realization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet said at a workshop in Hanoi on Wednesday, adding that this is a consistent policy Vietnam has always promoted at the global level and implemented in practice in Vietnam.

Nearly one-fifth of Vietnam’s land area, 5.6 million hectares, remain contaminated with bombs, mines, and other explosive ordinance, Viet said.
The workshop included sessions on sharing the experience of Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand; the importance of information management; the tripartite cooperation model of the UN Development Program (UNDP), the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and Vietnam; overcoming the consequences of landmines in the fulfillment of SDGs; technological advances; backlog risk management; and regional cooperation mechanisms.
